Sydenham Literary Piazza

Breathing new life into a stretch of parkland with a community run library

This public realm landscape project for the community-led Sydenham Library reinvigorates a forgotten strip of land at the edge of Home Park.
A design workshop was organized by Beep Studio and facilitated by GlassHouse & The Open University, and the Studio went on to win funding for the scheme from the Mayor of London's Pocket Park initiative.

The studio’s design concept provides access, safety and delight, whilst enlivening public space around the library.
New landscape features include a market square and a ‘Literary piazza’ themed around reading.

The project was commissioned by two local groups:
Friends of Home Park and The Sydenham Society.
