Research bridging traditional techniques and leading-edge technology

Beep Studio was invited to speak at The British Ceramics Biennial in Stoke-on-Trent and participate in ‘PRESS PRINT TO MAKE’ - an exploration of ceramic 3D printing and its possible applications. The studio was given select access to a ‘Projet 660’ - a ceramic printer brought to the UK for the first time. Pieces printed in the machine were fired, glazed and decorated on site at the Spode works.

Beep Studio’s research piece is a development of a sculpture originally hand-carved in Portland Stone. The Studio worked closely with manufacturer 3D Systems to ensure the piece explored the limits of the technology. The resulting sculpture is a sphere made of 12 identical puzzle pieces, which are now being manufactured.
